The business was originally formed in 1996 by Adrian and Elizabeth Clements, aiming to provide a vehicle for their areas of expertise in insurance publishing and IT. Since then the company has developed along these parallel strands building strong businesses in publishing and technical consultancy and IT support. The computer operation supported both the internal publishing business and the IT infrastructure of many external small and medium sized businesses.

In 2002 LIS devolved its publishing operations to concentrate on the better performing technical sector. Together with significant investment in new internal systems, this closer focus has delivered continued growth and improved levels of service.
