A summer of music

Good news, Spotify has lifted its 10,000 song cap for online libraries. With the great weather we are having, it’s likely you’ve been creating loads of Spotify playlists to listen to in the garden – we have. You can make a playlist for every mood and occasion! So, start creating a summer of music playlist now! Read the full article written by Simon Cohen from Digital Trends.

Spotify users, rejoice! Today, the music streaming platform announced that their “unlimited library experience” is fully underway, meaning that users are no longer limited to the once-held 10,000-song capacity on personal libraries. This is a massive sigh of relief for anyone who’s had to be picky about what they save and what they don’t for fear of meeting capacity.

In a new community blog post, Spotify said they will be lifting the cap in the coming days after the user request became one of the most popular in their Community Ideas Exchange. Since 2014, the streaming giant says it had received over 12,500 votes to lift the cap.

The limit, which currently affects liked songs and liked albums, meant that it was only possible for users to save 10,000 items in their Spotify library at any one time.

Once users hit the cap, they would receive a message saying: “Epic collection my friend. There’s no more room in Your Library. To save more, you’ll need to remove some songs or albums.” While users will still be restricted to 10,000 offline downloads, online libraries will now be unlimited.

Apple set to launch glasses?

Apple set to launch glasses? Google Glass didn’t work out so well… how will the launch of Apple Glasses do?

It’s been an open secret for years that Apple is developing augmented reality (AR) glasses, particularly since the announcement of ARKit at WWDC. No wonder: with Google and Microsoft actively developing devices, it seems like a party Apple can’t afford to miss.

But what exactly does Apple have in its sights, and when are we going to see the new glasses?

A couple of patents granted in January 2020 gave some insight into Apple’s plans for a headset. A trusted source in May 2020 suggests, an announcement about price, specs by the end of the year. The source of that leak has also claimed that Apple is working on a separate, round-framed Steve Jobs Heritage Edition of the product, and we’re not sure whether to take him seriously.

In this feature, we look at all the latest Apple AR glasses rumours, patents and possible release date details, including iOS 13 support for AR glasses.

Apple set to launch glasses?

Apple Glass could redefine wearable computing. Here’s everything we know so far.

What is augmented reality?

First, a quick refresher on terms, as many get AR and VR confused. VR headsets are mounted on the head in a similar way to ski goggles, and completely block your view of the outside world. They track your head movement, and the 3D image displayed inside the headset moves accordingly. This makes it appear as if you’re wholly inside a 3D ‘virtual’ world.

AR glasses are see-through. An image is displayed in front of your eyes to see the world around you. AR hit the headlines in recent years, first thanks to Google Glass (which displays 2D images) and more recently with a headset developed by Microsoft called HoloLens that embeds 3D images in the world around you.

Android phone hidden features

Your phone is smarter than it looks! Android is loaded full of features—many of which are not completely obvious or are possibly even hidden behind “secret” menus.

The history behind the Android phone

Sometimes it feels like we’ve been running Google’s mobile OS on our Android devices forever. It is less than 10 years since the first official Android phone launched in stores. Google’s decision to make Android an open source OS allowed it to become highly popular with third-party phone makers.

Just a few years after the launch of Android 1.0, Smartphones that had the OS installed were everywhere. Now it has become the most popular mobile OS in the world, defeating its many competitors like Symbian, BlackBerry, Palm OS, webOS, and Windows Phone. Apple’s iOS is the only platform still standing as a serious competitor to Android, and that situation doesn’t look like it will change anytime soon.

Conclusion

Apple need to start selling new iPhones that are much cheaper than its current models. It would seem reasonable to predict that Android will continue to dominate the mobile OS market, even with its history of problems providing swift updates. Android is being installed on phones that are sold for less than £100 as well as on expensive flagship devices like the current champion: the Samsung Galaxy S10 Plus. That flexibility, combined with yearly updates, will ensure Android will remain the leader in this industry for years to come.
